Bay Area Sandblasting

Bay Area Sandblasting Contractor

Bay Area Mobile Sandblasting

Wet sandblasting, sometimes known as dustless blasting, is an efficient abrasive blasting process that removes coatings and contaminants without damaging the substrate. In dustless sandblasting, a mixture of water and abrasive media is propelled by compressed air at a surface. In dry sandblasting, frictional heat can warp surfaces (especially metal surfaces). In wet sandblasting, the water supresses dust particulate created during blasting, and also keeps frictional heat from warping the surface.

Legion Corp is a C-61/D-38 sandblasting contractor (License #1062449) serving the Bay Area and Northern California. Our specialties are subcontracting to general contractors, abrasive blasting and repainting of heavy equipment and machinery, marine sandblasting, and commercial abrasive blasting.

We come to your job site in the Bay Area. Our mobile sandblasters have over 20 years of abrasive blasting experience.

Eco-Friendly Abrasive Blasting

There are many distinct advantages of wet sandblasting. In dry blasting, there needs to be an enclosure around the work area, to keep the breathable dust contained. With dustless blasting, the water droplets envelop the dust particulate, and gravity makes those particles fall to the ground. Dustless blasting also facilitates the use of silica-free or even organic abrasives. This means compliance with OSHA, as well as EPA and DEQ Environmental Standards. Less blast media is used than with dry blasting which is better for the environment. Also, wet sandblasting means you don’t have to have a plant shutdown in order to have abrasive blasting. For manufacturing plants or processing facilities, this means production doesn’t have to cease. Lastly, dustless blasting is non-sparking, which means it is safe for pipelines and refineries.

Safe Sandblasting Work Practices

The abrasive media we use is completely free of crystalline silica. Why is this important? Silica sand is a cheaper abrasive, and at one point, was extensively used in the sandblasting industry. However, it was discovered that when small particles of crystalline silica were breathed, workers would develop respiratory diseases. Fibrous growths would develop in the workers lungs to encompass the small silica particles. This condition is known as silicosis, and there is no cure. Because of this, most sandblasting companies stopped using silica abrasives entirely. Because of this, Legion Corp only uses abrasive media that is devoid of crystalline silica.
